Katharine Taylor attended Hillsdale College in Michigan, where she studied with artists Sam Knecht and Anthony Frudakis. As a student she won awards for her paintings and drawings in Hillsdale College student art exhibits as well as the Mid-Michigan Small College art competition. She graduated in 2002, summa cum laude with a BA in art. After graduation, Taylor received a grant for a cooperative project in sacred art with sculptor and classmate Allison Streett, and spent another year at Hillsdale completing a large painting of the conversion of St. Paul.
For the next six years, Taylor worked as a professional graphic designer in St. Louis, Missouri, but never completely abandoned painting and drawing. Upon returning to live in Michigan in 2008 she was asked to teach a few classes as an adjunct member of the Hillsdale art faculty, and discovered a love of teaching as well. Taylor welcomed the opportunity to return to her artistic roots and spend more time at the easel. She finds that her students’ enthusiasm for art inspires her as well.
Currently, Taylor is developing an eye for the hidden beauties of the midwestern landscape, in the woods and garden around her home in Sturgis, Michigan. A long-awaited trip to Italy in 2010 also provided new insight and subjects for a few paintings.
